I just launched my online jewelry business like 3 weeks ago. With all the backend work, ensuring quality control, branding/packaging, legal work - all took about 3-4 months of work. And I’ve spent nearly $4000 on total inventory.I went to alibaba to find my supplier who could make my designs come to reality. I work with 2 main suppliers who have manufacturers in South Korea. All the material that is used for jewelry is nickel & lead free, and is environmentally safe. I’ve since had 4 sales since launch with great feedback on the jewelry designs and was so excited to promote and expand my business until...My concern right now (which I should’ve thought about before) is I’m not sure if this jewelry was “ethically” made. I did my due diligence on doing research on my suppliers and on their website everything looks polished. All jewelry designers seem to be university graduates getting paid well- so I thought the designs would be ethically made. I notice this huge trend when it comes to jewelry especially in North America- people really care about whether their jewelry is environmentally safe and “ethically” made. While not ALL will care, but many companies nowadays claim they make their jewelry ethically. And I really don’t know what to do now.I tried to get more info out of my suppliers in terms of “ethical” but I keep getting pointed to their website “about” page. What am I supposed to be even asking for? What certifications? To prove these designs were made in ethical conditions. And then I think to myself, literally almost every private label brand on amazon is from China and people left right and Center buy this stuff with their eyes closed making the seller millions of dollars. But when it comes to jewelry, they’re worried whether it’s ethically made? I’m so lost with these customers’ double standards here. Am I focusing too much on an ethical niche? Should I just completely eliminate the word ethical as a selling point- because that’s really what it comes down to.Are people not going to buy my jewelry because it was made in Korea? China? Even though every large retailer (for God’s sake even Apple) manufactures their products in China? What do I even do? How do I position myself in the jewelry market against lines that are “ethically” made or should I just not compete in that niche at all? Please advise. I will greatly appreciate your help! see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
