What would you do with a technical background?

I'm back at school finishing a masters in electrical engineering, with research and (non-exec) work experience in AI/ML/computer vision. I'd like to ultimately assume a technical founder role, but am lost in terms of finding environments where I can seek out such opportunities (assuming I don't create the opportunity myself).
