I have been looking into creating an aerial photography business for a while now, and I have recently been more motivated to get started. There's a lot I could talk about, and ill try and be clear and break up my post into a few lists:GOALS: what do I intend to do with this business?1) Extra income. I am gainfully employed as an electrician, but its always fun to have more money2) Entrepreneurial experience. I wish to run my own electrician business one day, and this drone company would sever as a good trial run to running a small company3) Part time. I am about as busy as I can stand with my main job, so this is not a full time or primary income. However, once I am fully licensed I can always use that license as a backup and a fall back should this photography company take off and becomes feasible.4) Flexibility. Once a scheduling/booking system is developed, I view this as a very flexible business. I could move locations and as long as I maintain a level of FAA compliance, I should be able to take it almost anywhere in the US.TARGET MARKET: What do I want to focus on?1) Agriculture. There is a lot of farmland and agriculture where I live currently.2) Private Property. Lots of cabins and second homes in the area as well3) Recreational Land. Hunting property is also rather common.4) Promotional Material. Resorts and other tourism based businesses are within an hour of driving and would offer a demand for footage.4) Other. I'm open to other options as well. Construction updates, cars, boats, prom photos, etc.ADVANTAGES: What makes my business competitive in my area?1) Little Competition. The closest competition is another small business run also as a side job around 150 miles away.2) Lots of potential Customers. As mentioned above, this is an underserved area. Lots of people who would like photographs of their properties. This would require a fair bit of work to raise awareness of my services, but I believe there would be a steady stream if not a downright torrent.WHAT I THINK I NEED:1) FAA commercial licensing. $115 dollars to get licensed.2) LLC registration. ~$2003) Insurance. Haven't done much digging here yet.4) Drone. I will be asking a follow up question for this one. $300-$1k budget for now5) File management. Lots of options here. Thumbdrive to cloud based.6) Website/MarketingQUESTIONS: a not conclusive list of questions that I can think of.1) Drone. I need to pick a drone. I don't know where to begin. I would like to start out without investing too heavily, and then as I get more experience and demand invest in a more specialized drone or two. A friend has a DJI Maverick and I was impressed. True, it lacks more advanced gps route planning and autopilots, but it seems solid and easy to use and may be enough. Otherwise, I am not against buying a drone that is used or an older model or one that is more expensive. But, as I am just starting this out as little more thank a side gig, I don't want to get too invested2) Software. I currently have an Adobe Lightroom subscription, GIMP, what other software should I look into? I don't think I want to mess with more advanced pipeline software at this time, but I could see opening up into more interesting tools in the future.3) Have I missed anything?Thank you for your time. I am open to all thoughts and critiques and advise. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
