Running a very successful rage room part 2

Hello r/entreprenuerAbout three years ago, I made this post about my successful rage room: hereIt got lots of attention on this sub-reddit. It even prompted me to create and sell a course on how to start a rage room from scratch. I figured since so many people have reached out and been interested in this story, I would write a little update post.TLDR from the original post: Started a rage room in 2018 at age 22 that began to gain lots of traction in 2019. Discussed my research on the industry prior to opening. Shared insight as to why I thought I was succeeding over similar operators.Picking up where the post left off: 2019 continued well. Then the summer hit and the business started to decline. We lost quite a bit of money in June and July with no signs of us getting back on track. I really thought that was going to be it for my business. There was only about $4k left in the bank account and I had no other funds to support it.In July, I decided to make a stand and at least go down fighting. I taught myself all about digital marketing. I also improved many odds and ends things about the business that did not cost money. This persistence paid off as sales began to increase again mid-August and we actually turned a profit. September into the end 2019 got even better. Sales and profit were increasing month over month.Feb of 2020 we knocked our previous best month in sales out of the water by a long shot. We were on track for a similar month in March. But then we had to close due to COVID. I was not too worried about having enough money to survive as we had a decent amount of cash in the bank to stay afloat.During the time my rage room was closed, I had no intention of slowing down or pumping the brakes. From my original Reddit post, I had about 1-2 people a week reaching out for advice on opening their own rage room. I figured I might be able to create and sell a course on how to start a rage room with my knowledge and success in the industry. That’s what I worked on through much of the pandemic and actually released in August of 2020.Not only did I create my course during the pandemic. I also took the opportunity of being closed to completely renovate and redo the entire interior of the business. This ate up about 75% of the cash in the bank account. (Looking back, I think this was a foolish move given all of the uncertainty with COVID at the time) We eventually opened back up in July of 2020. Now, with a kickass facility.Business continued as usual throughout the end of 2020. Our sales numbers were actually better than the previous year despite the pandemic. I had made back everything I had spent redoing the place and then some by the end of the year.January 2021, I’m not exactly sure what happened. But we completely blew away our previous record for sales in a month once again. This was in the thick of a pandemic when local cases were at an all-time high. Then February came and it was better than January. Then March was better than Feb. I couldn’t believe it! We were turning away 15-20 groups regularly on the weekends because we didn’t have the room. Every weekend, every room was booked almost completely full Fri, Sat and Sun. This rage room business was beginning to generate serious profit. It was time to consider expanding.I began looking to open in a neighboring city in Feb of 2021. I eventually partnered with an individual already looking to open a rage room in the area. The store was to open under my name and brand. I successfully opened my 2nd location in May of 2021 with huge grand opening success. We were fully booked the first weekend and turned away at least 30 groups because we had no room. Unfortunately, we were located in a mall. The neighboring tenants were not fond of the noise. The mall restricted our operating hours shortly after we opened to evenings only. We still pulled decent sales numbers in May and June. However, we made the decision to vacate the mall for a different location in July 2021.We ended up reopening our second location in a much better space in Oct 2021. It has since been operating and running smoothly since then.I am in the process of opening 2-3 more stores in neighboring areas as we speak as well. Our original location continued to excel and grow. The worst sales month in 2021 was better than our best sales month in 2020. The store runs on autopilot now. I am completely hands-off unless called upon. It’s truly amazing to have seen this business grow into an income source in which I do not have to be present.Rewind a second. In April 2021, the business and online course I offered began attracting lots of attention. I was approached by a franchise development company during this time that was looking to partner up with a rage room owner and franchise their business. They contacted numerous owners throughout the country searching for the right one to launch this project with. But when they found me and did digging on my operation, they knew I was a perfect fit.Fast forward to the present day. It’s been a long journey. But we just recently launched our franchise offering about a month ago. I believe we are one if not the only one currently able to sell rage room franchises. (I am aware there are others. But they don’t seem to have all of their documentation in place yet.) My partners have vast experience and a credible past launching and selling franchises. I couldn’t be more excited to expand my business in this capacity.I know this was long. But lots has happened since the original post. I have put an unimaginable amount of work into this business and it’s great to see it paying off. Super excited to keep growing my company and hopefully, one day become a nationally recognized rage room brand!Happy to answer most questions! see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
