Does anyone here own a car dealership?

I’ve been playing around with cars ever since I was a kid. It started with going on rides and helping my dad with his cars, to blowing money on my own during and after college.So I’ve always been passionate about them and have wanted to work with cars but never knew what I wanted to do, until two or three weeks ago I drove past an independent dealership and thought about how much I’d enjoy it.There’s two segments I’d want to be in 1.) Mid range $30k-$60k sports and luxury cars with a focus on domestic muscle and sports cars and 2.) less than 8 years old and low mileage commuter cars to help capture the people who just need to get from point A to point B reliably.So a couple questions for people who have done it:How many cars did you have in your initial inventory?Were there any unforeseen problems you didn’t anticipate? Legally, operationally, insurance wise, etc.?What was your initial start up cost? I’d obviously have to really work up to it, but when I envision it within the first year I see myself, one person for marketing/sales, a master mechanic, and an auto detailer.What are the real challenges of running this type of business? Anything you wish you knew about running it before you got started?How involved in the business are you at this point? Does it run itself or are you still involved day to day?What’s the best way to start networking with other dealership owners? Should I just call and ask if they have time to chat?
