Treat failure like Thomas Edison

paralyzes us in our attempt to achieve our goals. This irrational fear can be the obstacle between our current reality and our most wanted dreams. But how can we overcome this fear of failure? Simple, treating failure as a scientist (or as Thomas Edison). When scientists do experiments, the outcomes are very different. Some are positive, some are negatives, but all the results are critical pieces of a puzzle. Each piece gives information that leads to a final answer. And that is how scientists treat failure; as another piece of the puzzle. In contrast, many of us treat failure as a defeat. We are looking at failure the wrong way. As “Capitan” Jack Sparrows put’s it.“The problem is not the problem; the problem is your attitude about the problem.”Failing a test does not mean we are not intelligent enough. Failing to make our favourite dish does not make us “bad” cooks. Failing in a business does not mean we don’t have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. You get the point. To a scientist, a bad result does not mean she or he is not a good scientist. On the contrary, proving that a hypothesis is incorrect can add as much value as proving it correct. Because in the end, they get a result, and something is learned along the way.Can you imagine the scientist working on the COVID vaccine giving up after a couple of failures? Or Thomas Edison gave up on the lightbulb invention after some negative results? The world would not be the same. So why are we so easy to give up on our hope and dreams?Failure is the cost that we have to pay for success.Having this new perspective on failure does not mean that we should aim for it. Failing to achieve the things that are important to us is never fun. We always need to give our best to our dreams and goals but consider that failing can be part of the process.Failing will always be part of our personal growth for one simple reason; if you are trying to build a new habit or learn a new skill, you are experimenting. Additionally, if you do enough experiments, then eventually, you will find a positive result. It happens to even the best of us; Thomas Edison famously said:“I haven’t failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”Treat failure like a scientist. Your failures do not define who you are (Neither your success). Failing and succeeding are just mere results, pieces of information that will lead us to an answer.More quotes about failure.“Success is most often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable.” — Coco Chanel.“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” — Robert F. Kennedy.“Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.” — Denis Waitley.“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” — Paulo Coelho.“Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I’ve met people who don’t want to try for fear of failing.” — J.K. Rowling.“When we give ourselves permission to fail, we, at the same time, give ourselves permission to excel.” — Eloise Ristad.“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” — Johnny Cash. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
