Not every entrepreneur wants to dropship or start a SaS business, sometimes it's getting your hands stuck into something you love which is what will give you meaning. I started farming mushrooms..BackgroundSo you guys and gals may or may not have seen a post I made 9 months ago about quitting 12 years of government work (Air Force and Police) to start a small scale mushroom farm. The farm has been going well, so I thought I would give an update on some parts of it.If you want to read the original post, here is the link.https://ift.tt/32YKtIp UpdateThings have been going well at the farm. I am still producing around 30kg of mushrooms per week, with some new varieties coming to the market soon. the pandemic really hit home, and I shut the business down for nearly 3 months. During this time focused on a second business of mine, which has just been sold, but that story is for a different day . As the pandemic lockdown started to end I went back to my love, farming mushrooms, with a new outlook. I had made some leaps and bounds in the past 6 months that I though I would try to capitalize on. The major one being YouTube (YT)..As written in the page I linked above, my business is divided into three parts. Fresh mushroom sales, online sales of spawn and other mushroom growing items, and YT. about 8 months ago I made a Video which really took off, and just broke the 200,000 views mark a few days ago. This video done wonders for my YT channel, and really started to propel it forward. In the post I made 9 months ago to this subreddit, I was YouTubing for around 1 year, and had a little over 500 subscribers, and 1000 watch hours. Now I am about to break 10,000 subscribers, and have racked up 5,900 watch hours in the last 28 days! Growth has been exponential. For anyone interested, this was the video that really threw my channel forwardhttps://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kPLXib4ksEThat video single handedly (do videos have hands?) enabled me to monetize my channel.Monetizing YouTube?Monetizing YT is a thing, but it can be very difficult to cross the threshold needed. I have seen channels with 5 videos get millions of views, and channels with hundreds of videos get almost none. You need the content, and you need to get people to watch your content. My YT channel earned the most it's every earned last month, breaking the $350usd mark for the 28 day period, which I am more than happy with. My Amazon Associates is going strong, but it does fluctuate. My best month on amazon has been around $150 usd for the month period. I get this in Amazon gift cards, and generally use it to purchase items to make better videos with...Can anyone monetize YouTube?Honestly, If you have some spare time, and run your own business or side hustle, absolutely! I started my channel to document my progress, and it's sorta grown from there. I am now targeting 100,000 subscribers and would like to shift a larger part of my business to focus on YT.If you do something, no matter what it is, people want to know about it. Look at this sub for example. I still browse this sub all the time, because I like to read peoples ideas, and I like to see the success stories. YT is just another place you can do that, although finding the channels can be harder.I get e-mails every single day from aspiring mushroom farmers around the world looking for help setting up a farm. having a YT channel adds a strange complexity to your business. It opens you up to the world, even though your business might only be a local one like mine.So the farm is still going well, I am in the process of automating it with Home Assistant software. Sales are good, YT is doing well, and we've had some positive media lately. I really do love farming, and I think urban or small scale farming for profit is a thing.I am but a simple man tending to my farm... see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
