....... "These are easy to read, bite-sized notes that I would like to share with you. For the past 10 years or so, I have been collecting these notes. They were extracted from situations I encountered at work, articles and booked I have read, podcasts I have listened to and advice I have received from friends who I consider great thought leaders."Note #1 - Being First vs Being BetterIt is much easier to get into a prospect’s mind first than to try to convince someone you have a better product than the one that did get there first.- What is the name of the first man landed on the moon? More likely than not you already know the answer. It is Neil Armstrong. What is the name of the second man to land on the moon? More likely than not you don't know the answer. It is Buzz Aldrin.- Volvo has entered the consumer's mind as the safest car in the industry. Mercedes and BMW have tried hard to take that title away from Volvo but they never succeeded. People always remember the first.- During the 1920s, Kimberly-Clark created Kleenex tissues. The word "Kleenex" became so powerful that we usually call all tissues brands a "Kleenex".It is almost always that the leading brand in any category is the brand that arrived first to the prospect's mind. Also, people usually stick with what they have and got used to. it is really hard to change people's habits.- Advil was the first ibuprofen brand. Who do you think is the leading brand in the painkiller market? What should you do if you weren't the first in the category? you can create a sub-category and be the first there or you, simply, can target a different market location.- First in Sub-Category: Volvo wasn't the first vehicle in the automotive industry but it became known as the first in the safe cars category.- First in a New Market Location: Coca Cola came before Pepsi. So how Pepsi solved that problem? by being the first to enter the market in some developed countries. Now Pepsi is the favorite soft drink in those developed countries. If the secret of success is getting into the prospect's mind first, what strategy do you think most companies are committed to? The better-Product strategy. Marketing is a battle of perceptions. People, in general, perceive the first product inters their mind as the best available option.\P.S. Of course, not all first products succeed. Some fail. There are many other factors that help a new product make it to the top. (I will mention those factors in future NOTES posts).*- Frosty Paws, the first ice cream for dogs, was the first product in its category but it failed in becoming a recognizable brand. why ?? probably because of bad market research. The dogs might love it, but the owners are the ones who buy groceries, and they think that dogs don’t need an ice-cream of their own. They can be happy just to lick the plates.\*P.S * These are not rules and are not intended to be followed literally. These just note that I thought they might give you some inspiration while running your business.*I will be posting a new note every few days. I hope you enjoy them. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
