How we landed our first customer

It was April 2018. My business partner and I where a few hours away from launching our content agency. Leaping into the unknown. We had spent the previous few weeks hashing out our business strategy, devising an operational plan, and of course making sure our financials made sense. But now it was time to put the business to the test. How easy/hard would it be to land our first customer, and once we had done this would other customers follow suit.I was time to throw caution to the wind and go and test the proverbial waters. Enough hypothesising. Enough what if this, what if that. Just go out and get it. If you come back with nothing, well at least you tried. Move onto something elseOne thing we had a good understanding of before launching was precisely where one of our customer cohorts resided - a number of Facebook groups to be exact. Moreover we where privy to competitors posting their content services into these groups, and therefore knew what was required in terms of marketing copy to outperform these competitors. So we crafted a compelling post detailing our content writing service and posted this in several Facebook Groups. The admins of some groups rejected our posts, but some didn’t. Within 35 min of the first post going live we had our first enquiry.5 min later another one. Thereafter a flurry of enquires thanks to the Facebook algorithm which kept pushing our post to the top of the group every time someone commented. We spent the next few hours corresponding with these prospects - we didn’t have much to show in terms of track record so we were relying on strong oratory/written communication skills in those early days to be the clincher.By the end of the day we had our first customer. Once that first customer bought that very first blog post from us, that sent us on our way. We had the external validation for our service and it gave us the confidence to close many more customers thereafter.Get stuck in early. Hustle hard. And be resilient in those early months. There will be a lot of rejection and failure, but that one landed customer is all it takes to keep the fire burning. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
