Does anyone have experience hiring a friend in another country as a contractor and complying with local laws?

I asked my friend to help me on a project and he is on board. Both him and I want him to be compensated, but we're trying to figure out the easiest way to do this without risking legal trouble. I don't want to "hire" him as an employee as it would be a bureaucratic nightmare for my small side project. It seems like paying him as a contractor is the simpler option, but even then each country has different laws for that. Does anyone know of a service that can handle these kinds of scenarios including drafting the required legal documents? see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
