This is somewhat of a hypothetical, but I just wonder what would happen if everyone worked equally as hard and had the same level of intelligence? Would every market because deadlocked between a certain amount of competitors who make it impossible for new entrants. For instance I am a successful real estate agent who runs a real estate group in a luxury market. We work with a great marketing company who helps us keep our luxury image. We also have extensive experience in this market. Obviously the market can only handle so many realtors and in my city there are 15,000 agents, of which, only 10% make a living. We are in the 1%. It just baffles me that more people can’t do what we do. It isn’t that hard (at least to me) to make a lot of money in real estate. Maybe it’s because of my connections to the luxury market before becoming a realtor but it makes me wonder what would happen if everyone had the same work ethic and worked as much as physically possible. If all agents had the same talent and information, would the market become like the commodities market? Is this true for every industry? There is only so much room for new products and services.I always people say “just work harder and longer than your competition.” This doesn’t seem to be possible forever. Eventually you literally cannot work more hours and are limited by your mental ability. If your competition is just as smart and relentless how can anyone make money? If every competitor was like this, it would seem like eventually everyone would make less profit until it could just barely keep them alive. If every market was like this it would result in people being stuck earning just enough to eat. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
