I recently started working on something that I had been putting off for a while due to having thoughts that it would never succeed. I'm starting a kente style streetwear brand, kente is an african print/ textile that is quite popular in the African community. The issue with kente is that it stands out a lot so I want to incorporate little elements of kente and combine it with traditional streetwear so it will have a nice synergy. I'm going to start out with print on demand so that I can minimize my costs, use shopify and focus on promoting my brand organically and via events in the diaspora community. What are the challenges that make me doubt this idea:Streetwear is saturated (when I scroll on Instagram I get flooded on a daily basis with adverts for new streetwear brands) I hope that the kente element will counter this a little bit. It's a marketing intensive industry (I had a schoolproject where we ran a small streetwear brand and we tried facebook and Instagram advertising but this didn't pay off at all, we also only had a small portion of sales that didn't come from our inner circle)Knowing how hard it is to make sales in this industry without inflating your marketing budget, I highly doubt that I'll be profitableWhat are the advantages of this idea that make me believe in this idea:It's a specific niche I want to serveThe demographic I want to serve is on the rise, many diaspora who are interested in both streetwear and kente are starting to make their own income and build their own life.Multiple brands have tried to make the crossover, so that confirms that it's a viable ideaYears ago I spoke with multiple people about this idea before and they reacted positively see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
