E-commerce tips and tricks for making your new website look seasoned.

Hi!I've recently started up my first e-commerce business after many years running bricks and mortar establishments and one of the first hurdles I've encountered is;'How do I give the impression that my website has been up and running for longer than it has?'In my case, we are a group-buying website based in the UK, primarily selling high-end garden furniture and home goods and our very first customers will be the hardest to pull in due to, well, lack of other buyers. Now I would imagine that this is a common problem for some other businesses starting out, who would like to appear as if they have been up and running for longer than they actually have, for whatever reason. So what can we do and what moral high ground do we take, if any? The imagination is the only limit to ideas that could be utilised to solve this issue, which would vary from subtle, visual cues, to downright absolute lies. Personally, I'd like to weigh in at the less morally corrupt end, and I'm happy to go with a couple of little white lies. Now, I deliberately haven't turned to Google for this for an answer, for a good reason. If others Google and use any of the tactics offered, these will by nature of where they were found be used by more people, giving a copycat feel that consumers will undoubtedly pick up on, and associate your website with others, and you want to be associated with NOBODY else, regardless of how their tactics are executed (when researching group buying websites, I noticed they all had the same look and feel about them, and when I found something I didn't like about one in particular and as they all were similar, my return visit and impression of any of them was marred by association). One idea I've had is to have a 'Photo Competition and previous winners gallery' in which each month people can send in photos of the products they received, and the best photo each month will get X. I can stage some previous winners e.g. 'January - Jill from Cleethorpes', 'February - David from Cheam' etc. I understand I would have to set out terms and conditions etc to make it look genuine, and if by magic some people did enter, it's even better.I feel that this however has probably been used before quite a bit, although personally I'm ok with that level of 'untruth' being told, however others may wish to be a bit more cutthroat.Share your ideas here, if you have any and you want to and any more I have I'll update here also.
