Is giving out general liability info a bad idea?

I'm a plumber and a sprinkler guy that refers me work wants my insurance info. It was for a job done a few weeks ago and he says he has been audited (no clue what that means).I'm only asking/paranoid is because a Contractor I worked for quit the trade because he said customers went behind his back and made insurance claims without his knowledge. I didn't even know that was possible.Can someone make claims behind your back or was my old contractor full of shit? see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
