Prelaunch plan - social media or newsletter?

I was having a discussion with my friend about the critical success factors for launching an online website. On one end, he believes that social media is extremely important in the beginning phases since most people are on social media and it helps you retain front of mind.I believe that a newsletter sign-up for the prelaunch has more weight. If you collect emails, then you can drive traffic from there to your social media once you launch it.What do you think is more important for a prelaunch... social media, or collecting emails for a newsletter? Also - how soon should you send your first newsletter?I don't think that there is a 100% correct answer, but I am interested in hearing what others have to say. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
