I live in a super tiny town in Nova Scotia, I'm 35, currently work from home as my full time job at the moment. I have always wanted to open and run my own business for years. My sister has been running her own shop for years and i really admire her for it. We don't really talk all that often so i can't really ask for her advice. I have had a lot of ideas over the last year and the one thing that really stuck was baking all natural dog treats (my dog and the neighbors dog are fairly picky, so i know my baked treats are good lol). I have the idea to use large mason Jars(just bought a case of 12 a few weeks ago to start), I have labels to print at home, a couple of things to tie around the neck to hold the ingredient label/how to store. I have the name (which i still need to register), I have a logo and I also have a place to sell (great market in the next town over, she charges 20% of the selling price of each item for a small space). I still need to order or make a sign before i can get a space at that market.I have goals of where i want to be in 6 months to a year to 5 years with this, namely to be able to sell across my country. I want to stop working for someone else .. I want to do this so bad but I'm terrified of succeeding, which may not make sense.How do you say the hell with it and just get the guts to go for it? When i do go for it and start making a profit, what do i need to consider? I know a lot of you are based in the states, so we may not have exactly the same rules, but everything and all things to consider would be a big help. If i wanted to break down the cost of my supplies per treat recipe to see what kind of margin I was looking at, do any of you have suggestions on what to use ?
