Marketing and branding specifically seems to be key, learning how its done on the internet?

Im a 25yr IT career guy, looking to move toward the large 6 and 7 figure jobs.But in the mean time I truly believe we all need a pet project/business.Ive studed commerce at university.Its apparent to me, branding is everything and having influential people wearing/promoting your brand. Outside that it appears internet marketing is the next must know.Given I understand corporate type marketing, how do I learn internet marketing and fast? I know there is a lot to understand from the internet SEO side to the Social Media, understanding how modern marketing gurus do it.Im far from designing a brand or even thinking of a product.
