Not sure if this is best subreddit for this..I am a W2 employee and my new husband is self employed (single member LLC). His business started up last year, so this is his first year paying estimated taxes.I am VERY underwhelmed with the accountant he uses and I just dont know what to do. The guy didn't even check to see if there were any life changes coming this year (marriage!) or if he expected a change in income (husband's income doubled, plus my income which is double what he makes currently). So I'm pretty sure that we're underpaying taxes.I met with the current accountant to get some guidance and he didn't know I had an appointment, had paperwork EVERYWHERE, never had my husband pay estimated state taxes this year, and when I asked about what we should be paying for federal taxes, he ballparked our numbers so roughly - he didn't ask about my pre-tax deductions at all!I met with a new accountant who charges $200/month and assists mainly the business. But with my husband making ~40k, this seems like a lot of money. Especially since he's just focused on the business - when I said that I'm also hoping to get a handle on if a Roth or traditional 401k makes more sense for us from a tax perspective, he said that he focuses on the business.. which doesn't make sense to me since from what I know, it's a pass through entity?Any recommendations on how to figure all of this out? Is TurboTax an option? How do I figure out how to adjust the estimated taxes? I used the IRS calculator, is that my best bet? see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
