Hello there, I'm happy in a way that what I started as a side project to learn coding a year back is now a SaaS product and I've also got some new clients who have started using it. I've been building this during my weekends and spare time since I'm in a full time job as well. It took me around a year and a half to make it what it is now and I built every piece of it .Some backgroundI work in IT but I'm not into development. I was a system engineer so I was into cloud, automation and stuff. I always had the thirst to develop something but I lacked knowledge of development and also the capital to hire someone and make him/her build what I want. I tried convincing my colleagues (who are developers) to help me out but they had different commitments and also lacked enthusiasm.I decided to learn coding myself since I've nothing to lose and started building one thing at time. As a side project to learn coding, I used a system design overview as reference which I was going through while preparing for an interview. I started building one piece at a time and then I gained some confidence as it started to get some shape. I lost my job due to covid last year and this made me feel that it's high time that I cannot rely solely on my job. Though I got into another job very soon, I kept building it during my weekends. It was more of a `shawshank redemption` stuff.New ClientsI went live a month back and the response so far has been very positive. Basically my product is more of a Digital marketing tool that helps in branding, re-targeting, A/B testing etc. Got couple of clients within weeks after launch and they opted for the premium plan. Yesterday I got quite a high profile youtuber who's into digital marketing started using it. Above all, the fact that people are finding something you built very useful and productive gives me great joy.How do I manage?Basically since I've some good experience with Devops and system engineering, I don't have to rely on anyone for technical side of things. I make sure I run this app in a cost effective way not compromising on high availability and uptime. Since I've developed the app myself, its easy for me to manage and add new features and do the roll out. This cuts down almost all of the cost and the only thing I've to pay for is for the servers.What I learnt?Perseverance is the keyFuture plansSince the product has started gaining traction, I'll soon be integrating it with an affiliate program. I'll probably be hiring people for marketing and sales once I attain certain number of clients.
