Any advice for a first time inventor?

I recently came up with a product idea that I want to patent. I have no engineering or technical experience. I have a successful D2C e-comm biz, so I have a very good sense of how to sell this product, I just have no idea how to create the product physically/technically, and I also have no idea how to best protect the IP. If you have successfully obtained a patent, invented a product before, or have knowledge on the subject... what is the process like? What books/resources did you read to get yourself the necessary skills to gain proficiency on the technical specifications of a product? how did you source manufacturers? Any and all advice appreciated :) see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
