How do I tell the graphic designer that I don't like the logo?

I'm a total entrepreneur newbie, so please let me know if there is a better place for this question.So my friend highly recommended this one graphic designer. I loved the look of her logo so I gave it a shot. My only request was that the logo be simple.So the logo I got is the opposite of simple. It's a complicated design with tons of embellishment and color. And other than that, I just don't like it. I don't want a simpler version of what she made already.What's the most professional way to deal with this? Should I just thank her, pay her, and try somewhere else? Or should I tell her to scrap it and do something completely different, with more specifics?
