I saw a post recently about a dissatisfied entrepreneur unhappy with their partners contribution and everyone's advice was to have just done it alone from the start. So I echo the same sentiments when it comes to buying into a franchise. Not to mention the "I'm tired/why did I/I wish I would've".let me start by saying that I'm sure there are successful brands throughout the world that you can see as soon as you step out your door But that doesn't mean they are without their unhappy locations, and regardless of the name there are always going to be evidence supporting the conflict ridden nature of the Franchisor/see relationship. You don't think they have a vested interest appearing like their infant brand is a godsend that is damn near essential in running a business in their industry? You don't think their disclosure document and franchise agreement are heavily, HEAVILY tailored to be in their favour. And is done so with all the funds coming in from their royalty streams. You don't think they've gotten the priciest lawyers to create an airtight scenario they can manipulate no matter what, and admonish themselves from any and all risk and loss? They're a machine whose goal is to grow and make money, and understandably so, but take that into account when reading their selling points. You didn't ask for my advice but I'll give it to you anyways. Do not buy a franchise. You're leasing an expensive job, and marrying to a brand whose goal is to get you in the door and create a framework where you are their sole source of cash flow, and if they decide something is good for the brand that you don't agree with, tough shit. You'll see the bill no matter what. And the next one. And the next one."But you can accelerate your growth with established marks and a vetted reputation and a proven formula for succ..."Stop. It's marketing. We've all been through a honeymoon phase and realized we ignored redflags we shouldn't have. "What about their 'systems and methods' yeah it's 2021. All the information online is free, and the systems they're selling you are probably already showing up in your ads anyways if you're a business owner. (One example is CRM's)You don't think they'll tailor the data to appear as best they possibly can? Whether it's an unhappy client or an unhappy franchise unit, it's always the same story "it's an individual isolated case; them not us". Mmmm yeah no it's not. And don't be surprised that communication between franchisees will be stifled. The Franchisor doesn't want units communicating with eachother about how they're each treated differently.By all means if you want to buy a proven fast food chain that's been around for decades and you have the liquidity, cash and assets to join a real proven brand. Maybe. But anything less, run for the hills.TL:DR - Don't buy into a franchise. They're like the outdated higher education/colleges of 2021. Overpriced and overvalued. Go it alone. Enjoy the struggle of learning and developing your own brand and take pride in owning it and all it's upside. Guaranfuckintee whatever franchise fee you would have been required to have paid would've been put to better use elsewhere. Whatever information or training they're selling can be learned online for free. see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
