Hey, everyone. This is an issue that has been bugging me for years. Although it is nice to vent once in a while, I don’t mean for this to come off as complaining. I just want to know if anyone has any advice they can give me. (A TL;DR will be included at the bottom.)I started a website more than six years ago and a podcast in 2015. I have always had well known people in the hobby interviewed on my website and on my podcast, and a couple of well known companies (my point being that it isn’t just me talking to my friends about random stuff). I am very meticulous with having good intro music, a good outro, and clear, balanced audio. It is not the best-produced podcast, but it is certainly not the worst, and everyone that has given me feedback says it’s great.However, even with these well-known figures from the industry, my podcast and website never really picked up traction. I was stuck with a niche fanbase of a few people that really appreciate what I do, but I didn’t even have a single review on my podcast until late 2020. But I still have only less than 10 reviews on the podcast.I poured hours of writing, photography, website design, podcast creation, and editing audio, and I just wasn’t seeing much traction. So in late 2016 I sort of put things on pause. I would post original content on Instagram just to keep the page going, but kept losing followers, never gaining. I had to get serious about work that would actually make me money, and in the short-term it was never my goal to immediately make money from advertisers on my website/podcast...maybe once I started getting tens of thousands of views and downloads (I still don’t know at what point I should try to make money off their website and podcast).I just got back into my podcast and website last year, and fortunately, my traffic has been up since then, so I’m not stopping.Ok, so here’s the main question: How do you gain traction in podcasting and directing traffic to your website? For example: I have had two guests with a large following tell me they would post about the podcast appearance on their page to direct traffic to my podcast/social media...but they never did. It is quite frustrating to edit a podcast, link to all of their stuff, send traffic their way, and then they never reciprocate, even after saying they would. Why do people ghost like this after you offer them value, and have you been successful in getting others to link to your stuff? I’m assuming this is how new podcasts suddenly have a following with hundreds of reviews or more.TL;DR: Can’t get any real traction with my blog and podcast. Basically put it on pause in late 2016 after hours upon hours of work and traveling for it, but currently getting back into the work flow after a few years off. Never had advertisements, and offered free value to anyone that wanted to get publicity from my interviews/podcast show, but I wasn’t seeing reciprocation and I’m still not.
