Do cold email pitches benefit from a personal approach ?

I work as a labourer assembling pipeline in the oil fields. I have come up with a new design for one of the piece of machinery used for my job.I wanted to pitch my ideas to a couple manufactures. I made a very short email contacting the manufactures saying I have some ideas and asking if they take external designs. My friend suggested that I should include that I work in the field to show a more personal touch and knowledge in the field.I felt as though this could come of as " this dummy in the field thinks he has an idea " and wouldn't be taken as seriouslyWhat do you guys think ? Should I Include that I work in the field and just have a few ideas I want to pitch ? Or would this hurt me instead ?Thanks see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
