Should you price your offer as per unit or as a package?

Let's say I have an automated saas company. Would it be better to price things in terms of "50 units for $1 per unit", or "50 units for $50"?When you think about, everything seems to be priced as a package these days. Take a wholesale retailer like Costco for example, do they price things as 100 rolls of toilet paper for $2 each, or a package of 100 rolls for $200?I've always priced things in terms of units and I wonder if I've lost sales because of the psychological ramifications of the model?Any thoughts help.
