I really wasn't sure how to title this, so I'm just going to spell out the situation below.I began writing software for a family member that might turn into something sellable. Not talking the next Microsoft or anything, but has the potential to bring in a couple bucks.I reached out to a co-worker, who I'm friendly with but I wouldn't say we're BFFs or anything like that, to help me with the front end work because I'm mainly focusing on the back end/business logic. We've worked together on this for a month or so and he says that he has a good friend who we could bring on as a front end developer as well, since then we could have two people focusing on back-end and one dedicated to front end. I'm all for it, but now some questions are popping up in my head, and I'm hoping that someone can give me some advice. I know it is wayyyy early but I want to have an idea of how to structure these things if the opportunity comes.Let's assume that we sell the first license to my family member. What is a fair cut percentage wise for someone who incepted the idea/began working on it/laid the groundwork? What is a fair cut for someone who was brought on as development "help" in the early stages of a software company? What about the next guy down the list who was brought on later? How do you structure this sort of compensation?Do I need a LLC or something along those lines? When is it "time" to form a company instead of just thinking of it as a side project? How do you protect the intellectual property so that one of the dudes doesn't leave and just start his own thing with the same idea?I know i have more questions than this but I just can't think of them right now. I also know I'm putting the cart before the horse but I figured its good to think about these things early. Thanks in advance! see hubwealthy.com/wealthy
