I have been selling on Etsy for a little over a year and have done great with it. There are a lot of reasons not to put all of your eggs in the Etsy basket though and I set up a store with Shopify a couple of months ago. I am noticing that when I pay for ads that go to my Etsy store I get way more return for my money than I do on my own site. I’ve done AB tests with the same ad and the same product on the same advertising platform.I think possibly one of the reasons for this is the lack of social proof on my website. I can add a review app but I kind of feel like it could backfire since I get relatively few sales on Shopify right now, so how will it look if only two of over 80 items have any reviews? It will look like no one buys stuff from me which is the opposite of what I want. I could also import reviews from Etsy but it’s a process and I’m super computer illiterate. In addition I do not relish the idea of paying to move over three star reviews from people who say shit like “it’s a cool idea, just not for me” or who ordered the wrong item by mistake and feel I deserve two stars for their mistake. Especially considering I have free returns for up to 60 days after delivery. 96% of my reviews on Etsy are 5 stars but I’m kind of salty about the bad ones as most have nothing to do with my product or service.Is there anything else I could do instead that isn’t corny and fake? So far I’m not hiding sold out items or variations (the intention there is “Look, shit sells out. If you want it, don’t sit around.) But I think I need something more. I have relatively few followers on IG because I’m lazy and suck at social media but at least they are 100% organic besides my mom who likes every single one of my posts.
