So in nursing homes up here in canada there is a 40 old folks to 1 nurse. This is a ridiculous number as a lot of the old folks arnt being taken care of in their last years. Now the problems are numerous. Top down policy and not enough incentive or hiring. In a system that functions properly ideally the requests for service are non existent and the government has to first do an investigation and then make recommendations on what they think is needed to impliment ridgid policy. I feel this is all backwords and a technological solution could help.So heres the idea. In a well functioning system information and requests would come in from the people being cared for and then the hospital staffs size would adapt to the needs of each care home. Data could also be sent to gov to get their ass on hiring more people when needed. Like click a button, and then record wait time. Then the wait time/request ratio is adjusted and the information sent and calculated how many people are needed. management gets the info to ramp up or ramp down nurses on standby. This would enable care from a bottom up rather than an ineffective a top down policy approach. So there it is. My friend had their parents really suffering in the nursing home and there really needs to be solutions found. So im getting this out there for her. And i thought that technology might be used to help solve it. If there are any young bucks out there with some skills willing to take on this problem it could affect positive change in the health care system suffering right now if you can get the system implemented in the care homes.
