anyone here hire a developer or designer paying over 100/hour? was it worth it

Im saving up for a good designer and developer for a project i have had in mind for many years and want to start off right. I have never hired anyone but im thinking of not wasting time with low rates because im not sure they will provide good value over time.however I wonder what the top limit should be? 100/hour is a lot of money in other countries and even the US if you make even part time income.
